Buddhist vegetarianism.

March 18th, 2008

The first lay precept in Buddhism prohibits killing. Many see this as implying that Buddhists should not eat the meat of animals. There are however differing points of view. The Buddha made distinction between killing an animal and consumption of meat, stressing that it is immoral conduct that makes one impure, not the food one eats. At one point the Buddha specifically refused to institute vegetarianism, and the Pali Canon records the Buddha himself eating meat on several occasions. There were, however, rules prohibiting certain types of meat, such as human, leopard or elephant. Monks are also prohibited from consuming meat if they witnessed the animal’s death or know it was killed specifically for them. On the other hand, the Buddha in certain Mahayana sutras strongly denounces the eating of meat. In the Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra, the Buddha states that “the eating of meat extinguishes the seed of great compassion”, adding that all and every kind of meat and fish consumption (even of animals already found dead) is prohibited by him. The Buddha also predicts in this sutra that later monks will “hold spurious writings to be the authentic Dharma” and will concoct their own sutras and mendaciously claim that the Buddha allows the eating of meat, whereas in fact (he says) he does not. A long passage in the Lankavatara Sutra shows the Buddha weighing strongly in favor of vegetarianism, since the eating of the flesh of fellow sentient beings is said by him to be incompatible with the compassion a Bodhisattva should strive to cultivate. Several other Mahayana sutras also emphatically prohibit the consumption of meat. A solution to this problem arose when monks from the Indian sphere of influence migrated to China, as of the year 65 CE. There they met followers who provided them with money instead of food. From those days onwards Chinese monastics, and others who came to inhabit northern countries, cultivated their own vegetable plots and bought everything else they needed in terms of food in the market. In the modern Buddhist world, attitudes toward vegetarianism vary by location. In China and Vietnam, monks typically eat no meat (and with other restrictions as well ? see Buddhist cuisine). In Japan or Korea some schools do not eat meat, while most do. Theravadins in Sri Lanka and South-east Asia do not practice vegetarianism. All Buddhists however, including monks, are allowed to practice vegetarianism if they wish to do so.

Top online casinos

December 2nd, 2007

In order that you do not make mistakes inside the top online casinos, you need to learn how to play the gamling slots, how to differentiate between online slot, and how the online slot operates and looks like.
Slot machines history has been around a 100 years, and in recent years the major developments in the casino game have added more fun and more chances of winning to the slots.
Learning how to play online slots is more simple than any other online casino game. To play slot machines you may need to purchase a special coin, or to use regular cash coins. In on-line casinos you play on-line slots by paying through a registered account. To actually activate the slot all you have to do is pull the level, press the button, or click on the touch-screen, all placed on the gambling machine.
The goal you need to aspire to when you learn how to play online slot machines is to win real money from the on-line slot machine by getting a consecutive row of a certain symbol or shape at top online casinos. When you start to find out how to play online slots you’ll notice the screen shows a row of different symbols. Those symbols are on three to five spinning wheels, and may be suits/numbers/fruits or other types of shapes and forms.
When you pull the slot machines level and operate the gambling machine, the three wheels turn and you see the three images change fast. When the on-line gambling machine stops, the three final shapes on the online slots screen are the final shapes that are the score. Near the slot machine there is a chart that shows the winning combinations, and their cash prizes. If your score is one of those combinations, you’ll hear the machine flash and ring, and you’ll get cash prizes according to what the chart specifies. Sometimes the prize for a combination is that you get another free round wherein you can play slots again.
The following option offer you different rules how to play slots, on the internet and in online casinos, and you can practice and choose the one slot variant you preffer:
* Reel slots are the most common online slot machines, and are recognized by 3 to 5 reels on the slot screen. When you play slots of this sort, the only way to win the jackpot is to insert a larger number of coins per spin.
* Video Online slot machines use only one coin at a time to play each round.
* Video poker machines are online slot machines where players try to reach symbols much like winning poker hands.
* 9 line slots are usually themed online slot machines of various TV shows and celebrities.

There are high limit online slot machines, where you pay high figures like $100 for each turn, and low limit online slot machines, where you can pay as little as one penny.
Some combinations of gambling slots allow you to play gambling slots and win, not only with horizontal line, but with diagonal and vertical lines as well. You will figure how to play online slots like these after you play them for a while. They have a larger screen, that you need to get used to. It shows more figures than the normal one row slot.

To investigate health-related matters, such as pharmacies online, careful internet users can join a relevant health discussion forum. There are lots of health forums especially for discussing online pharmacies that other forum users have had experience with or researching any particular online pharmacy they are considering buying products from. An even quicker way than trawling through forums is to use a pharmacy reviews website. Reviews websites for online pharmacies have done the hard work of finding out whether particular online pharmacies - for example Mexican pharmacies online, or online pharmacies without prescription requirements - are reputable. They can provide an efficient, and reassuringly well-checked way of finding out if an online pharmacy you wish to use is reliable ot not.
There are however other definite benefits to using a forum to search for this sort of information, even if it is not the most efficient way to search for reliable pharmacies online:
It can be comforting to get answers from real people on a health forum. This is especially the case for people who suffer from certain medical problems that they feel they cannot discuss with friends or relatives. However obviously advice on forums should be taken with a pinch of salt and never be a substitue for advice from your doctor!
Probably one of the biggest attractions that online pharmacy forums hold is that you can ask any of the forum participants any questions about pretty much anything related to the topic, which can be fun and educational.
By either using an online pharmacy reviews website or reading and joining in the discussions on online pharmacy forums you won’t fall into the same trap that others have fallen into before you. You can get great online drugs review information. Such preventative information can be invaluable! There are a handful of criminal online pharmacies out there, but pharmacy reviews websites normally have a blacklist of rip-off pharmacies to look out for, so you can avoid these by checking one a pharmacy review website.
Some things to look for in joining or reading an online pharmacy forum to check that the forum has reliable information on are forums that receive a lot of visitors, usually the more the better.
A lot of people use forums or pharmacy reviews websites these days and their numbers are growing exponentially. People might look for Mexican pharmacies online or online pharmacies without prescription requirements, or they might just look for a hard to find prescription medication that it would be cheaper to buy online. Some people like to find generic (non-branded) versions of popular drugs. By looking on health forums or pharmacy reviews websites they can tell, not only if they will save money shopping online (they almost certainly will) but if they can rest assured their package will arrive in a timely manner.

Marriage agencies ourdays

November 7th, 2007

You can become acquainted with somebody by means of various methods. Electronic web serves as one of the asked spaces of making an acquaintance with your future friend or even bridegroom. Men write to each other by dint of forums, chats and marriage agencies.
Marriage agencies are the most promising start for devoted relationships. Is it so arduous to discover a beloved man by traditional method? Do Russian ladies desire to come across something alien?
Why marriage agency starts to be her rescue? First of all it is very hard to get marry once again, particularly when you have a child after the first marriage. A Slovenian girl becomes disillusioned with own guys who didn’t offer her support that woman needs. Girl is short of stability and expectation for the bright future. Most of them are searching for American husband in order to feel themselves like behind the “stone wall”.
Russian woman always compares a foreign man to the local one and of course american men won :). She is admired by foreign male’s deportment and helpfulness and is tired of local guy’s rudeness and indiscretions. Making a conclusion, I want to tell that Slovenian brides who are looking for west fianc? , aspire to all that any man dreams of: to find affection, regard and gladness.

Augustus II successfully set out to discover the secret of “white gold,” as the porcelain that he produced at Dresden and Meissen was described. In 1701 he rescued the young alchemist Johann Friedrich B?ttger, who was fleeing from Fredrick the First’s expectation that he produce gold as he had boasted he could. King Augustus II imprisoned B?ttger and forced him to reveal the secret of manufacturing gold. B?ttger’s transition from alchemist to potter was orchestrated as an attempt to avoid the impossible demands of the king. Being an alchemist by profession rather than a potter gave B?ttger an advantage in the quest for the secret of porcelain. He realized that the current approaches which involved mixing fine white substances like crushed egg shells into clay was not the answer, but rather his approach was to attempt to bake the clay at higher temperatures than ever before created in a kiln in Europe. He intended to melt the structure of the clay so as to transmute it into a new substance. That approach yielded the breakthrough which had eluded
European potters for a century. Today the manufacture of fine porcelain continues at the Meissen porcelain Factory. Augustus II also gathered together in Dresden many of the best architects and painters from all over Europe, and his reign marked the beginning of Dresden’s development as a leading center of technology and art.
Frederick Augustus I,
Elector of Saxony and King of Poland (as Augustus II the Strong) (German: August II der Starke; Polish: August II Mocny) (b. Dresden, 12 May 1670 – d. Warsaw, 1 February 1733) was as Frederick Augustus I the Elector of Saxony 1694-1733, and later also King of Poland 1697-1704 and again 1709-1733.
Augustus’s great physical strength earned him the nicknames “the Strong”, “Saxon Hercules” and “iron hand”. He liked to show that he lived up to his name by breaking horse shoes with his bare hands. His ancestor
Cymburgis of Masovia was also noted for her strength.
Augustus the Strong owed allegiance to the Imperial Habsburgs as a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
As Elector of Saxony, he is perhaps best remembered as a patron of the arts and architecture. He established the Saxon capital of Dresden as a major cultural centre, attracting artists and musicians from across Europe to his court. Augustus also amassed an impressive art collection and built fantastic baroque palaces at Dresden and at Warsaw.
As a politician, he is nowadays not held in high esteem in Poland, getting blamed for embroiling the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the Great Northern War. His attempts at internal reforms and at bolstering the royal power are considered coming to naught, while his policies are said to have allowed the Russian Empire to strengthen its influence over the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Do you know who is Dalai Lama?

September 17th, 2007

In Tibetan Buddhism, the successive Dalai Lamas form a lineage of allegedly reborn (tulku)
magistrates which traces back to 1391. They are of the Gelug sect of Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhists believe the Dalai Lama to be one of innumerable incarnations of Avalokite?vara (”Chenrezig” in Tibetan), the bodhisattva of compassion. Between the 17th century and 1959, the Dalai Lama was the head of the Tibetan government, administering a large portion of the country from the capital Lhasa. He is often styled “His Holiness” (HH) before his title.
Dalai” means “Ocean” in
Mongolian, and “Lama” (bla ma) is the Tibetan equivalent of the Sanskrit word “guru”, and is commonly translated to mean “spiritual teacher”. The actual title was first bestowed by the Mongolian ruler Altan Khan upon Sonam Gyatso in 1578. Gyatso was an abbot at the Drepung monastery who was widely considered the most eminent lama of his time. Although Sonam Gyatso became the first lama to hold the title “Dalai Lama”, due to the fact that he was the third member of his lineage, he became known as the “3rd Dalai Lama”. The previous two titles were conferred posthumously upon his earlier incarnations. Five Dalai Lamas were murdered by their Buddhist courtiers within 170 years.
The 5th Dalai Lama, with the support of Gushri Khan, a
Mongol ruler of Kh?kh Nuur, united Tibet. The Dalai Lamas continued to partially rule in Tibet with, to some extent, autonomous power given by contemporary Chinese governments, until the People’s Republic of China invaded the region in 1949 and then took full control in 1959. The 14th Dalai Lama then fled to India and has since ceded temporal power to an elected government-in-exile. The current 14th Dalai Lama seeks greater autonomy for Tibet.

Terrible incident

September 16th, 2007

The North Sea flood of 1953 and the associated storm combined to create a major natural disaster which affected the coastlines of the Netherlands and England on the night of 31 January 1953 – 1 February 1953. Belgium, Denmark and France were also affected by flooding and storm damage.
A combination of a high spring tide and a
severe European windstorm caused a storm tide. In combination with a tidal surge of the North Sea the water level locally exceeded 5.6 meters above mean sea level. The flood and waves overwhelmed sea defences and caused extensive flooding.
Officially, 1,835 people were killed in the Netherlands, mostly in the south-western province of Zeeland. 307 were killed in the United Kingdom, in the counties of Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. 28 were killed in West Flanders, Belgium.
Further loss of life exceeding 230 occurred on watercraft along Northern European coasts as well as in deeper waters of the North Sea; the ferry MV Princess Victoria was lost at sea in the North Channel east of Belfast with 133 fatalities, and many trawlers sank.
In the night of 31 January/1 February 1953 many dykes in the provinces of Zeeland, Zuid-Holland and Noord-Brabant proved not to be resistant to the combination of spring tide and a northwesterly storm. On both the islands and the mainland large areas of country were completely flooded with water. Many people still commemorate the dead on February 1.
The floods put large parts of Zuid-Holland, Zeeland and Noord-Brabant under water. In North-Holland only one polder was flooded. The largest floodings occurred on the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland, Tholen, Sint Philipsland, Goeree-Overflakkee, the Hoeksche Waard, Voorne-Putten and Alblasserwaard. Parts of the islands of Zuid-Beveland, Noord-Beveland, IJsselmonde, Pernis, Rozenburg, Walcheren and Land van Altena were flooded, as well as parts of the areas around Willemstad, Nieuw-Vossemeer and parts of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The heaviest death toll was recorded at the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Goeree-Overflakkee. The government started the Delta-commission to study the causes and effects of the floodings. They estimated that flooding killed 1,835 people and forced the emergency evacuation of 70,000 more. Floods covered 9% of Dutch farmland, and sea water inundated 1.365 km? of land. An estimated 30,000 animals drowned, and 47,300 buildings were damaged of which 10,000 were destroyed. Total damage was estimated at that time at 895 million Dutch guilders

Crying icon of Maiden Maria

September 12th, 2007

Each year a twenty for hours a dry blood on the button of cup that is stored in Naples Cathedral, suddenly drawn in red liquid which Catholic believe the Holy Blood Yanuariya, Bishop Benevito, beheaded came in 305 years. Making a solid to liquid souls and confirm many doctors and scientists, as well as followers of Catholicism. Also difficult to explain many cases where displaying images or
Madonna dripped tears or
blood
. While few of these sensationalism and were exposed as fraudulent, still others remain, the original, which continues to inexplicable.
Twenty-9th. August 1953 a pregnant woman named Antonietta Yanuzo, a resident of Syracuse on Sicily, found that plaster statuette of the Virgin baby crying. News of this miracle spread quickly and led to a spate of mass religious hysteria throughout the island. Local church authorities, a little pique public, which has been a story, decided himself to see it’s truth. In truth, they simply could not believe the words of the woman, but when samples from the current
Madonna eye fluid was analyzed, it turned out that they were not distinguished from the present human tears. Church immediately recognize the miracle and erected cancer, where pilgrims venerated statuette and in our time.
Because music Gypsum dolls are now mass produced in the West, it’s clear that its not difficult to organize such a miracle. Nevertheless the difficult to fabricate bogus these tears, and even less have set aside all thoughts of misleading when it comes to image, crying many years, as in this case. While forge bloody vasony even harder, the number of reported them no less.
In January 1971, a lawyer who lives in the Italian city Maropati, found that the icons of the Madonna, sign in the frame to his bedside, drips blood. Red iquid, no doubt, seen by the glass cover and an image of the Madonna eyes, as well as out of the hands and feet before her knees two saints. By stunned lawyer jets not just art on the wall to the floor, but formed crosses or gemogrammy (blood drawings) on white plaster above the bed. In the Italian case, the authenticity of the phenomenon has been authenticated, and spent studies substance police doctors confirmed, that it’s actually human blood. Suspecting fraud here, it wood be inappropriate, because the blood continued to flow out of the picture, even when it locked in a safe-deposit box Police Department.
The obvious miracles of this kind are so numerous that anyone who wished to describe them, not even able to accommodate all the facts in the volume. Because of Time could not cry or bleed, it’s clear that this phenomenon is unbelievable! Maybe it’s simply means that God has proved to exist. However, quite surprisingly, the highest so basically demonstrates a blatant way. Clearly, something strange was happening, but only as it relates to the divine?

Information is the result of processing, gathering, manipulating and organizing data in a way that adds to the knowledge of the receiver. In other words, it is the context in which data is taken.
Information as a concept bears a diversity of meanings, from everyday usage to technical settings. Many people speak about the Information Age as the advent of the Knowledge Age or knowledge society, the information society, and information technologies, and even though informatics, information science and computer science are often in the spotlight, the word “information” is often used without careful consideration of the various meanings it has acquired. Prague’s Palace Gardens

August 29th, 2007

If you are looking for a place to relax on a warm summer’s day then there is no better place than the Palace Gardens located on the southern slopes of Prague Castle. With their terraces, fountains, stone passageways and secluded alcoves these Baroque gardens take you to days gone by - and give you a fabulous view of the city.

Many visitors who first look down at them from the ramparts of Prague Castle think that the exquisitely kept gardens below are private property but the five gardens which form a connecting belt of greenery are all linked up and are open to visitors for a small fee from early morning till late night. The Ledebour Garden, the Great and Small Palfy Gardens, the Kolowrat Garden and the Small Furstenberg Garden represent a unique historic complex that enchants visitors from around the world. It was in the Ledebour Garden that I met up with the head of the Palace Gardens, Martina Zelenkova, to find out more about their history and what they will offer visitors in the summer months.

“The southern slope of the hill below the castle originally served defense purposes - a complex system of ramparts was built around 1241. But then after the battle of the White Mountain in 1620 the fortification system was demolished and gradually the grounds started attracting vagabonds and criminals. In order to get rid of them, the area was parceled up and the land was sold to rich burgers. They started cultivating the grounds -planting vineyards and Italian style gardens that served for leisure and amusement. It stayed that way until 1648 when the Swedes captured Prague. In later years the gardens were rebuilt in the Baroque style -with terraces, stone statues, pavilions, stairways and fountains. They were linked up into a single belt of greenery that has been maintained to the present day.”

Although today the Gardens are the pride of Prague Castle, this was not always so. Martina Zelenkova says it took much planning and hard work to restore them to their former glory.

“At the beginning of the twentieth century the gardens badly needed renovating and the authorities launched a renovation process of sorts, but it was inconsistent and gradually the once exquisite gardens went to seed and became overgrown. In the 1950s they were in such a state of disrepair that they had to be closed to the public. The fall of communism marked a new chapter in their history - the state Institute for Preservation of Historical Monuments set about restoring them to their former glory. This was made possible thanks to government funds, European Funds and the Prague Heritage Fund set up Britain’s Prince Charles and the former Czech president Vaclav Havel. Gradually all the gardens were cultivated and one by one they were re-opened to the public.”

Today the gardens look fantastic. Roses are in bloom, figs are ripening on the southern slopes and wisterias scent the air. Each of the gardens offers a slightly different view of Prague and each has its own special character. The firm which maintains them organizes a series of summer events for visitors. Martina Zelenkova explains what’s in the pipeline for this summer.

“We wanted to bring these gardens to life and the perfect way to do that was with music. Last year we introduced a series of classical music concerts. They were a huge success and we are planning a cycle of baroque music concerts for this summer, with music by Czech composers and world composers who sought and found inspiration in Prague. These baroque concerts will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings through June and July. We also offer concerts with selected Czech musicians. Last summer we introduced Czech singers Daniel Barta and Marie Rottrova and also violin virtuoso Jaroslav Sveceny. This year we have a special surprise which is still under wraps - and we will also present singers Marta Kubisova and Vera Spinarova.”

Although Martina Zelenkova would not say what the special surprise for the summer is, she did admit that theatre performances are also in the pipeline, for which the organizers still need to find additional sponsors.

In just three months Prague will make a bid to host the Olympic Games in 2016. However, there are a number of obstacles on the route to becoming an official candidate. These include calls for a referendum, property disputes about the sites of possible Olympic buildings, questions over the budget - and ground squirrels.

The Letnany district on the outskirts of Prague could one day be the centre of a future Olympic Games. Under City Hall plans, it would house a ceremonial stadium, Olympic village and media village. However, a large grassy area in Letnany is already inhabited - by a unique colony of ground squirrels.

Pavel Marhoul is from the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic.

“The colony of ground squirrels in Letnany is exceptional because it is constituted by roughly 600 individuals. Ground squirrels are a critically endangered species, and there are only about 29 colonies known in the Czech Republic. Most colonies, however, are much smaller, with only 30 to 40 individuals, and they are completely isolated, which gives them less chance of survival. The 600 at Letnany represent up to one quarter of all ground squirrels living in the Czech Republic.”

Ground squirrels are protected by Czech law, as well as at the European level, where the Habitats Directive controls the creation of new nature reserve areas. Moreover, the colony in Letnany is a Czech national nature monument. But even still, there has been talk of moving the colony to make way for the Olympic. The Agency for Nature Conservation strongly opposes this suggestion.

“We know of five experiments to move much smaller colonies, consisting of several dozen ground squirrels. Four out of these attempts were complete fiascos, and the results of the fifth one are not known yet, but it doesn’t look very optimistic, either. Therefore we rule out any possibility of moving such large number of ground squirrels, and we consider this proposal impossible.”

The Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection has already developed a special programme together with Ministry of the Environment. Pavel Marhoul again.

“Besides monitoring activities, which have already been taking place for some time, we would like to map the historical habitats where ground squirrels lived until recently. Finally, we will seek new possible locations for them. Our Slovak colleagues have succeeded in attempting to establish a new colony, but their experience shows that it is necessary to repeatedly place up to two hundred ground squirrels. Since there are only about 2000 of them living in the Czech Republic all together, we won’t manage without semi-natural breeding at the zoos.”
